Joint Pain
Joint pain may be due to injury or have a spontaneous onset. The nature of pain is either acute (less than 3 months duration) or chronic (more than 3 months duration). It is always wise to seek treatment while the pain is in the acute phase (i.e. as soon as possible after injury or the start of pain), but definitely before it becomes chronic. Compensatory movement patterns develop as a result of chronic pain which give rise to other injuries. There are also changes in the nerve pathways and the brain which makes resolution or reduction of chronic pain very challenging.
We offer comprehensive rehabilitaton after surgery, which includes (but are not limited to):
· Rotator cuff repairs of the shoulder
· Joint replacements (shoulder, hip & knee)
· Insertion of pins, screws & plates after fractures
· Knee cartilage/ligament repairs
In all of the above, the protocol of rehabilitation as prescribed by the orthopaedic surgeon, is strictly adhered to.
The temporo-mandibular joint (TMJ) at the jaw is a small joint that can be painful due to jaw clenching, grinding, arthritis, dental repairs (keeping the mouth wide open for a long time) and poor head and neck posture. We use Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Photizo Light Therapy, spinal mobilizations and muscle release techniques as part of the treatment to bring relief and/or healing to this painful condition.
A so-called "tennis elbow" is pain on the outside of the elbow, and not at all limited to tennis players! It usually occurs after repeated wrist movement and is due to repetitive strain of the forearm muscle. It requires treatment as soon as possible after the onset of pain (within the first week) to effectively relieve pain and prevent chronic symptoms.
