Nerve/Neuropathic Pain
Neuropathic pain is a chronic pain that results from injury or damage to the nervous system. Causes include infection (e.g. shingles), injury (e.g. nerve compression due to disc prolapse in the spine), certain medications and diseases (e.g. diabetes).
The normal function of pain is to warn us of an underlying problem or to protect us. In contrast, neuropathic pain is due to a malfunction in the nervous system where it becomes the source of pain.
This pain is described as burning, electric shock, shooting, “crawling” on the skin, “freezing”, itching or tingling. The painful area is often not the same as the site of injury/damage but occurs in the neurological territory of the affected structure (nerve, nerve root, spinal cord or brain).
The first line of treatment used in this practice is the revolutionary new Stimpod NMS 460, an external neuromodulation device which “resets” the gene expression in the nerve cell and can relieve the pain. Neuromodulation is considered a normal property of the nervous system that regulates or modifies electrical impulses flowing through neural tissues. The treatment is non-invasive and does not cause any damage.
Case studies with the Stimpod NMS 460 have demonstrated dramatic sustained improvement in pain and function.
All other treatment techniques and modalities which are indicated in the treatment of neuropathic pain are used in combination with the Stimpod treatment.
